March 2021
A new time and space with so much that has happened since I last wrote on this blog . Firstly I have retired from full time teaching and now do occasional relieving. Having said that I have lost none of my passion of working with and understanding children on the spectrum. I see so many more children presenting with spectrum behaviour from mild to those who have extreme issues. I see stressed teachers and staff as they deal with issues that arise and how draining that can be taking its toll on all concerned. I see busy parents tearing their hair out and I see an education system that does NOT support the majority of children in this situation. So I still believe that we , as teachers have to build our understanding of not only the child but also the whole family because if we do then life becomes easier for ALL of us . Communication and understanding is the key . Good luck This , I intend to be a living web site and I will still continue to build it further as things come to my notice. Today I have sent this through to the Ministry , posted it on POND and the Autism Waikato Facebook page. I have developed resources for teachers and parents for our school and these are available on request. Good luck everyone on this journey. email me [email protected]
